Who can relate to scheduling hours of labor into scaffolding for maintenance work? Fortescue Metals Group (FMG), the 4th largest iron ore producer in the world, has taken action against setting task force after task force to prepare scaffolds for routine and emergency maintenance jobs onsite.

At FMG’s Solomon Hub Power Station teams of engineers work tirelessly to maintain the vast power grid network that supports this large mining facility in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Routine checks on powerlines, engine replacement and occasional shut down maintenance is time consuming yet paramount within the harsh environment.

RESTRICTED SPACE CUBE

"Scaffolding usually takes an
entire day to prepare"

To cut down on labor costs and time spent setting up and packing down maintenance equipment FMG has purchased two Restricted Space Cubes to slice their workers woes in half. Jason Rampellini, one of FMG’s  senior electrical engineers stated that constructing scaffolding usually takes an entire day to prepare, not accounting for the time taken for the actual maintenance and pack-down time. The Restricted Space Cube eliminates the need for scaffolding with its 7.2m reach, 360-degree rotation and up to 5 minute set up time.

Cube and Rail

"The Restricted Space Cube at the Solomon hub is mobilised in tandem, heightening the efficiency and safety of multiple workers on an area at one time"

FMG utilises this versatile, compact, and portable device to improve the safety of their workers through its overhead anchorage point with an advanced personnel fall arrest mechanism. When fixing power lines and dealing with electrical equipment over 5m high its important to always have the safety of their engineers in mind.  The Restricted Space Cube at the Solomon hub is mobilised in tandem, heightening the efficiency and safety of multiple workers on an area at one time.
